The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Electoral Matters, Hon. Aishatu Jibril Dukku, has urged INEC to extend the deadline for the CVR registration to at least 60 days.
Hon. Jibril disclosed this during House Committee Meeting yesterday while briefing fellow lawmakers.
Hon. Jibril said that the resolution reached last week during the committee meeting with the INEC on Tuesday has yielded an agreement to extend the CVR, which was approved by the INEC and the House members plenary on Wednesday.
He added that last week Wednesday the house of Representatives urged INEC to extend the deadline for the continuous voter registration by an extra 60 days from June 30th 2022 to enable more Nigerians to register.
Furthermore, the House of Representatives also called on the INEC commission to deploy additional staff and voter registration machines across the country to be able to meet this objective.
The Committee Chairman of the House on media and publicity, Hon. Kalu Benjamin noted that the ongoing CVR by INEC was scheduled to end on June 30th ahead of the 2023 general elections.
