The INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu has guaranteed Nigerian youth that their votes in 2023 general election would be counted, while encouraging them not to fight but vote rightly.He gave this assurance during the Youth Vote Count 2.0 Mega concert, in Lagos.
The concert organized by European Union in Collaboration with INCE and YIAGA Africa.
Prof. Yakubu while addressing the crowd said that the commission has heard their two request.
The first request is for a PVC, in which he assured the yourh that they would have their PVCs.
“In the past one week, we registered over 5000 people here, and so to reduce the crowd trooping down to TBS to register, we would register in 20 centers in the 20 Local Government Areas in Lagos state. From next week machine would be available for registration”.
In an appeal for an extension of the CVR deadline, Prof. Yakubu said the youth would hear from INEC very soon.
The INEC Chairman promised that votes would count, if the people have registered and vote amicably.
Ambassador, Samuela Isopi , the European Union Ambassador to Nigeria, and the ECOWAS, noted that the massive turnout of youths to get registered is a sign of hope for a better future for Nigeria.
Isopi acknowledged the tremendous progress that INEC has made in the last few years with technological innovations and reforms to make elections more transparent and credible.
He expressed confidence that all the efforts made by the Commission to reform the electoral system in Nigeria would ensure that the votes of every Nigerian counts.
She promised EU continuous support to Nigeria to reverse the trend of low voter turnout in elections.
While urging the youths to take advantage of their largest numbers, come out and vote on Election Day and build a better Nigeria.
The artists present at the concert were Tu-Fact Idiabia, Waje, Omawumi, Toyin Abraham, M.I Abaga, Teniola Apata, Kiss Daniel, Small Doctor, Broda Shaggi, Mr Macaroni and Real Warri Pikin.Others are Pasuma Wonder, Skibii, Asake, Bella Shmurda, Joe boy, Mayorkun and Kie-kie.
