
CDD is supporting the FCT election through the deployment of election observers to enhance electoral integrity and credibility in the six area councils.
The centre stated this in a statement signed by Idayat Hassan, the Director of CDD.
She also called on INEC on timely upload of the polling units result on the viewing portal to enhance transparency, credibility and confidence in the process.
In addition, CDD also urged the security agencies to demonstrate neutrality by creating the enabling environment for a fair contest by all contestants in the race. “The Anambra state governorship election; was successful where the security agencies received huge commendation from all and sundry.We want the security agencies to be above board in their dealings in the election.”
According to her, the election Analysis Centre (EAC) will be set up at the CDD’s office on CITEC/Mbora Estate, Abuja and would be a one-stop-shop for rigorous analysis of the Area Council Election.
“The EAC will provide accurate and real-time analysis of events in the build-up to the polls, election day and post-election period in a more captivating, enriching, and systematic manner.”
CDD will be deploying trained observers to monitor the election in the six Area Councils of the FCT.
CDD will focus observation on the use of technology in election; the legal framework; the quality and management of election results; gender inclusion; electoral disinformation and critical incidence.
The centre will be spotting fake news shared on social media and responding through factchecking.
“Fake news can trigger fear and violence during an election. Fact-checking team will be countering spotted fake news during the election.”
CDD has been monitoring and following up on the character of the pre-election environment with the objective of collecting and disseminating information to critical stakeholders for early warning to prevent and mitigate electoral violence. In the period leading to the elections.
