The West Africa Broadcast and Media Academy (WABMA) has chosen Radio Lagos/Eko FM as one of the Lagos Partner Stations for the WABMA-ELS-U.S Consulate “Project Fact Check Nigeria” for Y2022 – Y2023.
The choice of Radio Lagos/Eko FM followed the historic visit to the United States Consulate-General, Lagos, by the General Manager of the stations, Mr. Jide Lawal and members of his management team.
The Director-General, WABMA, Kevin Ejiofor, noted that the Project Fact Check Nigeria, also known as Media Literacy and Countering Misinformation Project, is supported by the U.S Consulate General, Lagos.
He added that the Project would also educate 170 media professionals and 1,000 Nigerian youths from the 17 States of the South East, South-South and South-West on ways misinformation spreads on social media and messaging apps.
Ejiofor said that the two-day training, starting on Monday, December 20, 2021, with the theme, “Fact-Checking: Detecting Fake News and Misinformation”, is also aimed at increasing awareness about the importance of personal accountability in information dissemination through partnerships with radio stations for a sustained campaign.
