The President of Association of Resident Doctors FCTA chapter, Dr Nnamdi Ezuma said there is need to put an end to the unresolved crisis in the Nigeria health sector.
He made the disclosure at the opening ceremony of the 2021 annual health week ceremony in Abuja.
Speaking at the event, he said the theme of the program” The unresolved crisis in Nigeria health sector” was identified and chosen with the aim of discussing the different sources of the crises and also seek for possible solutions to the long lasting problems.
“We need to hold robust discussions which will proffer solutions to the long lasting health problem that is currently ravaging the sector. We need different perspectives from different individuals on how to move the country forward.”
He further advised all Nigerians to be an enrollee of the health insurance scheme. In the same vein, he noted that Public Private sector partnership will improve the health sector.
“It is necessary for government to address the crises in the health sector. They need to have robust discussions with Doctors on how to resolve the crises in the sector. There should be sincerity of purpose in order to address the lingering issues.”
“We need to make the health care system to work, the health care workers need to come together to address the challenges in the sector. Public private partnership will aid in reforming the health sector. It will bring about a positive development in the health sector. It will improve the level of health care services in the country. Some hospitals are already collaborating together and we need more of them to effect necessary change.”
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Programme Director, FCTA Health Insurance Scheme, Dr Ahmed Danfulani said there should be more budgetary allocation to improve the health care system in the country.” One of our greatest challenge is funding the health care sector. We should look for possible means of generating more revenue to the sector. The health system needs adequate funding for Nigerians to access the best health care services”.
“There is need to make the Basic Health care provision fund accessible to all Nigerians. The fund will make health care services accessible to all irrespective of location or status in the society”.
He further reteirated that challenges in the health sector are multi sectorial, that all stakeholders need to collaborate on how to move forward.”The government has their own fault while hospitals too have their own part of the challenges. There must be a think tank consisting of government, private sectors and stakeholders to move the health care system forward in the country.
The Director also emphasized the need to put an end to quackery in the medical profession.
“The issue of quack doctors is on the increase in the society. Some have done major havoc to the life of average Nigerians. Quakery is a big issue in the health sector, and we need to reduce it drastically”.
