The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday re-arrested a former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, at the Federal High Court in Lagos.
The commission is investigating alleged document falsification.
Fani-Kayode is on trial along with a former Minister of State for Finance, Nenandi Usman; a former Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) Yusuf Danjuma and a company, Jointrust Dimentions Ltd.
The anti-graft agency preferred a 17-count charge of N4.6billion money laundering against them before Justice Mohammed Aikawa.
They pleaded not guilty to the charges and were granted bail.
When the case was mentioned yesterday, all defendants were present in court.
But Mrs Usman’s lawyer, Chief Ferdinard Orbih (SAN), was absent.
Prosecuting counsel Rotimi Oyedepo informed the court that the prosecution was glad that the court had figured out from its record that Fani Kayode had sought repeated excuses from the court to be absent.
A drama unfolded after the case was adjourned until January 24 and the defendants stepped out of court.
While Fani-Kayode was still in the corridor, an EFCC investigator walked up to him alongside the prosecutor and after some tete-a-tete, the defendant entered his vehicle and followed the EFCC operatives to their office.
It was learnt that Fani-Kayode was in EFCC custody and was being questioned over the documents as of press time.
