
Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) is planning to establish a caliphate in Niger State, the government raised the alarm yesterday.
Secretary to the Niger State Government (SSG) Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim Matane, who raised the alarm, said the terrorist group was planning to establish a Caliphate in Borgu Local Government Area as its base in the North Central state.
He told reporters at a news conference in Minna, the state capital, that the group was responsible for the recent abduction of the Dodo of Wawa.
The SSG disclosed that ISWAP was targeting trying to establish its Caliphate around the Kainji National Park which is located in Borgu Local Government Area.
Matane’s alarm came on the heels of a similar alert by Governor Abubakar Sani Bello on the presence of Boko Haram insurgents in some parts of the state.
