Gunmen have killed a former governorship aspirant in Zamfara, and abducted an unspecified number of passengers on Kaduna-Abuja Highway.
The incident happened on Sunday.
Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, Commissioner of Police, Mudasiru Abdulllahi, and Garrison Commander 1 Division, Nigerian Army, Brig-Gen. Uriah Opuene visited the scene of the attack yesterday.
Eleven persons were reportedly rescued.
It was said that the bandits attacked several motorists on the highway, killed a stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who was a governorship aspirant in Zamfara State, Alhaji Sagir Hamidu.
A Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) belonging to the deceased was recovered by the security.
