The continuos evacuation of broken down vehicles on Abuja metropolitan roads by the recovery unit of the fct directorate of road traffic services led to the recovery of a Honda accord vehicle snatched in Kubwa. The owner who was inside was later abandoned at Wuye junction where the unit recovered it.
According to the head of the recovery and surveillance unit Engr. Moses Anyebe, the owner was tricked by the criminals through hitting his car around Kubwa, when he stopped to ask why, he was forced into his car and driven to the Idu rail area where he was thrown out and the suspects fled with the car.
Unfortunately for them, the vehicle stopped at Wuye junction which made them to abandon it.
Hoodlums vandalised the car immediately before the recovery truck of the DRTS towed it to the recovery ground in Mabushi. Records of registration number enabled the owner to be contacted and later got his car back.
“A lot of other recoveries have been made in the past.In another development,the recovery and surveillance unit has been able to clear the Asokoro bridge of the burnt truck that caused obstruction on Friday. “
Director,Wadata Aliyu Dogo Bodinga who supervised the evacuation ensured that the burnt truck was removed after difficulties experienced in the clearing exercised.
“The truck was sighted by our team at the DRTS recovery ground in Mabushi. The general public is advised to always report cases of broken down vehicles that causes obstruction to the DRTS headquarters in Mabushi as standby team of gallant recovery officers are always on ground to evacuate.”
Meanwhile,the fct administration has been advised to procure new equipments for the recovery unit going by the difficulty faced by men of the DRTS during the Friday evacuation of the burnt truck on Asokoro bridge.
A social critic Audu Mazawia emphasised that the DRTS crane that could not move the truck was less in capacity.
He therefore advised that heavy crane with sites to keep them should be urgently purchased in order to meet challenges. He therefore commended the fct Minister Musa Muhammed Bello and the DRTS director Wadata Aliyu Dogo Bodinga for the efforts taken to immediately clear the way for residents living that axis to get to their homes.
