A Nigerian businessman Mr Lawani Ehiozee Nath. has commended the Police service commission on effectiveness and intervention on cases reported to it by concerned Nigerians against some overzealous officers.
He also eulogized men of the Nigeria Police Force who has shown their capability in handling and tackling excesses within the Nigeria Police Force
“This is the purpose why the commission was created. The Police discipline department has an active Director who is living up to the task of intervening and disciplining erring officers and men accordingly. All that wouldn’t have been possible without the qualitative leadership of the chairman retired IGP Musiliu Kunbi Smith, Federal commissioner and the entire management.
He further called on the federal government to increase funding for the Police Service Commission to meet up the challenges of overseeing the affairs of promotion, discipline and appointment of police officers according to international best practices.
“The commission is trying but deserves more than enough resources to meet certain standards. The National Assembly should also increase the appropriation figure to the commission, to ensure civilised policing, the regulation and intervention of the commission on fracas, excesses, overzealousness, double standards and indiscipline are important.”
“There is nowhere in the world where the police are left to do and undo as their mode Operandi and operations have to be checked at intervals to ensure accountability, probity and adherence to rules of engagements which lies in the purview of the Police Service Commission.”
The composition of the present board is made up of experienced retired senior police officers, Lawyers and Civil society operators. To the best of my ability, they possess all the qualities to deliver and they are doing so. Nigerians are behind the commission.
