UNIVERSITY OF ABUJA DOES NOT CONDUCT ILLEGAL ADMISSIONS.
The Management of University of Abuja saiģ⁹d it does not conduct illegal admission. The Head of Information Relations, Univeristy of Abuja, Dr Habib Yakoob, made the disclosure in a statement. He explained that the allegation of illegal admission exercise is because the university of Abuja failed to upload the list of admissions on Central Admissions Processing System CAPS.”The university wishes to categorically and emphatically state that it has not conducted any illegal admission, and has nothing to hide as far as the admission process is concerned. We can boldly state that at the moment the university has one of the best transparent systems of admission in the country. We are the only federal University with catchment area in the whole of Nigeria, and truly and practically admit candidates from all states of the country while simultaneously upholding the principles of merit and excellence.”
He further noted that it is not out of place for the body to conduct Admissions without input from JAMB.”In view of the recent report from the media, which has constrained University of Abuja to respond to CAPS and JAMB statement, that the Univeristy among others are involved in illegal admission exercise. We would like to add that JAMB lacks the constitutional power to meddle in the admission into Universities”.While quoting the constitutional provision guiding the operation of the nation’s Universities education system, it reads,” the Universities miscellaneous provision,(Admentment), Act 2003 7a(ii), states that the Senate shall have powers in all academic matters, including the organization and control, teaching and research admissions of student”. Which emphatically means that Universities not any external body is guaranteed the power of admission. He further added that University rules are clear and transparent, as long as candidates have the taken the UTME and score 180 and above, and also meet the University cut off point, and some other stringent criteria set up by JAMB body. “The University will ensure within the limit of its capacity that such candidates stand a chance of getting admitted. In other word, there is no admissions for candidates who have not taken the UTME exams nor fail to meet JAMB or University guidelines in University of Abuja.”
